Annual Leave

When you join us you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days plus bank holidays, and after being with us for 5 years your annual leave will rise to 30 days, a thank you for your continuous service with us.

Leave Plus

In addition every year you may request to buy additional leave of between 1 and 10 days and to help reduce the financial impact on you the cost of purchasing this additional leave is then spread over 12 months of the year.

Extra Support

We strive to support all our employees with family related matters or emergencies and so offer various types of support in the form of parental leave, maternity, adoption & paternity leave and special leave - these schemes are also enhanced to support caring for dependants.


Flexible and Agile Working

We have a flexible working hours scheme in place for most employees (excluding some roles) as we believe that working flexibly is key to delivering a great service. More importantly it allows you to maintain a healthy balance between work and home/family life.

Health & Wellbeing

Our Health & Wellbeing Strategy sets out how we aim to keep everyone at Trafford healthy, happy and productive.

The strategy is themed around 4 key areas, Healthy Lifestyles, Musculoskeletal Health, Occupational Health & Safety and Mental Wellbeing. To bring the strategy to life there are a whole host of tools, support guides, initiatives, events and activities you can get involved in and tap into.

These include but are not limited to Health and Wellbeing micro learn sessions, mindfulness sessions, celebrating national health and wellbeing campaigns, such as mental health awareness week and world sleep day, alongside Tea and Talk sessions run by our network of Mental Health First Aiders who are available to access by all our employees. We also have an Employee Assistance Programme and staff can access support through this including counselling where there is a need.


Cycle Scheme

We work in partnership with a provider to offer a Cycle to Work Scheme; this scheme forms part of the government's Green Transport Plan and allows you to access bikes and safety equipment tax free, paid for as a salary sacrifice. When you're ready to pedal, we have secure cycle parking, showers and changing facilities available at our main office buildings.


We operate a subsidised parking scheme during the working week for employees based across the borough; the scheme is opened up twice a year in April and October to existing employees who would like to join or leave, and new employees are invited to join the scheme as part of the recruitment process.



Car Lease

You can also benefit from our car lease scheme which offers the ability to have a new car of your choice at a very competitive price. The scheme is offered on a 2 or 3 year basis dependent on your individual application, and is paid for as a salary sacrifice. Our scheme offers the benefit of having your car lease, insurance, tax and service/MOT packages in one monthly payment.

Pension Scheme

The Greater Manchester Pension Fund is the pension scheme for the ten local authorities in Greater Manchester. As an employee you will automatically be entered into this Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) unless you complete a form to opt-out within the first 3 months of employment. There is a GMPF application available to review your pension.


You will have access to a multitude of discounts including Merlin UK, Short Breaks, Hotel Hilton Gardens (LCCC), discount on food and locally sourced Haughton Honey.

We help you look after the pennies so the pounds will look after themselves through our 'Trafford Rewards' scheme. This scheme gives you access to an exclusive online shopping platform that offers discounts at over a whopping 3,500 high street retailers, covering everything from weekly grocery shopping to cinema discounts to electronics, fashion, holidays...

Staff Awards & Recognition

We are immensely proud of our staff and want to make sure that we recognise, reward and celebrate their achievements both formally and informally and have several different schemes in place to do just this.

Time to Shine - Every year we host our "Time to Shine" awards ceremony which sees nominees and category winners celebrated at this glitzy event for their contributions and efforts under different award categories. Our awards are themed around our values such as EPIC Team Awesome, Inclusive Leader and EPIC New Starter, to name but a few.

Epic Stars - Our monthly EPIC Star awards allow us to give a shout out and celebrate colleagues who really live and demonstrate our EPIC values in their work. Nominations are reviewed by senior managers and all winners are rewarded with a £30 love to shop voucher and their name in lights in our corporate newsletter.

Cheers for Peers - We encourage everyone at Trafford to show their appreciation for the little things that make a big difference and create an informal culture of recognition. Our Cheers for Peers recognition scheme allows us to do just that. Everyone who works here has access to a host of e-cards that provide you with a quick and easy way to send a quick thank you to colleagues or managers who have made a big difference to your day!

Long Service Awards - In addition we also celebrate the success and dedication of long serving colleagues at our Annual Long Service Award Ceremony. Colleagues reaching 25 years' service are invited to attend this event which is hosted by our Corporate Leadership Team. 


Home Technology

Our Home Technology Scheme gives you the chance to obtain the latest technology at affordable prices including iPads, iPhone, tablets and smart televisions through our salary sacrifice scheme. Our scheme opens twice per year and sees employees receive their goods in time for summer and Christmas.



We encourage all our colleagues to give back to our local communities and recognise that volunteering is a great way to develop new skills, create new networks and support mental wellbeing. As such we actively promote and encourage volunteering and to show our commitment to supporting you to give something back by enabling you to take up to two days paid time off to volunteer.
