Bury’s professional support services work closely together with the children and young people’s social work team – providing expert advice on HR, training, legal, and early help services.
We are also providing enhanced business support and family support to social workers – removing time-consuming paperwork and administration and allowing them to focus on their work with children and families.
“We provide a wide and varied programme of internal and external training opportunities that will stretch and develop you as a practitioner.
“You will have opportunities to learn and reflect on your practice, as a group or through individual supervisions.
“You can develop your career and we will support you to branch into areas you find interesting and to flourish in your practice.”
“Because this is a small council it does mean everybody gets to know each other. It is a supportive, respectful and collaborative place to work.
“We provide the legal advice needed if we have to take court action to share parental responsibility or, in the most serious cases, to remove the child from their parents.
“We have regular progress updates on cases with the social workers and it does feel like we are part of the social work team.”
“We have a team of HR professionals who understand the world of social work and who work with managers on a one to one basis.
“We support with recruitment, we help managers to deal with any issues that arise in their teams, we help with dispute resolution and with areas like occupational health.
“We recognise how difficult the job can be and we are there to give you that backing so you can take the decisions you need to make.”
“We put a lot of effort into having really strong relationships with the agencies who are likely to pick up any problems.
“For example all our schools have a named social worker and they get in early prevent an issue from getting worse. Or they run weekly ‘step down’ sessions to support families where things are getting better.
“In this way we help keep overall case numbers down and allow the response team to focus on the more complex cases.”
