Project Engineer (Metrolink)

Are you a Rail or Light Rail professional Engineer seeking an opportunity to make a real difference, transforming assets, on an exciting, dynamic transport network? Would you relish the opportunity to contribute across a range of multi- disciplinary engineering projects in delivering Metrolink Renewal and Enhancement projects?

Engineering is at the heart of Metrolink’s plans and this role will provide you with the opportunity to work in a complex and challenging environment where you will have the chance to grow and build upon your existing knowledge and experience to really make a difference to the travelling public. 

As a Project Engineer with Transport for Greater Manchester you will join our Metrolink Engineering team and in conjunction with our Projects teams deliver capital projects across the network.

We have 2 vacancies in the team for 2 project engineers with a track and civils background.  One role will support us as we develop our plans for how we integrate Metrolink with the changes created by HS2.  Ideally you will have experience working on schemes at an early stage of development.  The 2nd role will support in the delivery of our asset renewals which are continuously being developed and delivered.  If you have a preference on a role, you should express this at the interview stage.

The successful candidates will be supported by other discipline engineers where the engineering scope extends beyond their core discipline.


You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have significant experience in delivery of engineering projects in the light or heavy rail industries together with demonstrable experience managing technical interfaces with differing engineering disciplines.

The salary for this role is £42,399 - £47,722 per annum. In return, as well as a competitive salary, we also offer a range of fantastic benefits, such as:
