Thomas Ashton School is a co-educational special school for children from KS1 to KS3 who have a range of identified social, emotional and mental health needs and who may also have other associated needs such as attachment, ASD and learning.
At Thomas Ashton School all children have an Education, Health & Care plan that details their special educational needs and a series of anticipated outcomes. Through provision maps and IEPs teachers describe how those outcomes can be met via personalised interventions. Level 3 teaching assistants support this process by liaising closely with the class teacher and overseeing the delivery of the intervention programme.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person to work with children in the classroom, to help them make the progress they are capable of and achieve the success they deserve. The successful candidate also needs to be comfortable working with all children across the school in the event that roles change in the future. These children will present at times as being highly vulnerable, needy and very challenging, and in some cases, physically challenging. You must be prepared to handle children as a last resort, and you will receive training for this.
We therefore need a person who is: flexible; tolerant and patient; who can show creativity and initiative; who can demonstrate a genuine care for, and an understanding of, our children and their specific needs; who has skills and/or experiences that support the school’s priorities of improving the children’s core skills of literacy and numeracy and their personal and social development and emotional wellbeing.
Your main responsibility will be supporting the Teacher or Teaching Partner with the teaching and learning, delivering interventions and working with a Level 1 Teaching Assistant to ensure the pupils are happy and safe.
