In September 2019 Salford’s local authority nurseries took on our first ever apprentices! Since then they have developed their skills, knowledge and have even been successful in securing permanent positions within our nurseries.
Their journey has not been an easy one and all had to quickly adapt their learning to stay COVID safe.
Let’s hear from some of our current apprentices, starting with Joanne, who is due to qualify very soon:
Joanne Anderson – Apprentice Early Years Educator, Winton Nursery
I feel a great sense of achievement in being the first to complete my apprenticeship and finishing earlier than expected. This was possible working alongside an amazing team at Winton nursery who guided and supported me through every step and aspect of the apprenticeship. I really enjoyed completing my apprenticeship even in these difficult and challenging times. I have learned so much and continue to learn each working alongside the team. I am very proud of what I have achieved and the knowledge and experience I have gained.
Bethany Wright - Apprentice Early Years Educator, Belvedere Nursery
Bethany, who is also due to qualify, had this to say about her experiences:
During my time throughout my apprenticeship, I have gained a lot of confidence when working with both adults and children. I have enjoyed the hands-on experience as well as having the opportunity to progress my knowledge on child development. In my setting where I was based, I gradually was able to be left on my own and took on responsibility of running a room which has made me proud of what I have achieved. I had a group of key children, where I was able to complete observations, next steps and trackers.
Overall, I felt like a normal member of staff rather than an apprentice as I was welcomed in the nursery.

We have full time and part times roles available, but you’ll need to be available to work shifts between 8am and 6pm on a rota and at any one of our nurseries in Barton Moss, Belvedere, Higher Broughton, Little Hulton and Winton.
