Our people are at the heart of delivering our vision for “a better and fairer Salford for all’. Salford is a place for everyone to thrive – a place where everyone cares and everyone counts and we are committed to creating 'a great place to work’.

Every person is different but equal, and everyone’s unique talent should be recognised and encouraged. Building an inclusive workplace where all of our people feel valued and have the opportunity to be heard, as well as opportunities to develop their own career is important to us.  We are committed to developing a culture which respects individuals, appreciates difference and allows everyone regardless of background to reach their full potential.

Our aim is to positively support the workforce regardless of gender, age, race, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, pregnancy/maternity, gender identity, gender reassignment, disability and caring responsibility.

To truly achieve this is the responsibility of every single person across the organisation. We all have to demonstrate kindness and compassion for others. We challenge ourselves to see situations through different lenses to recognise barriers that people face. We take time to understand and reflect on our own unconscious bias and are not afraid to challenge. We have leaders who act as role models and are proactive around diversity and inclusion to create a culture where people trust and support each other.

We work closely with our established employee network groups BME, Equal in Salford and LGBT to make positive changes.

These groups provide important feedback to us about general and specific issues and are instrumental in developing and implementing strategies to eliminate discrimination, promote equality of opportunity and improve service delivery.

We are proud to be an accredited disability confident employer. We welcome applications from job applicants with a disability, and if you are disabled, guarantee to interview you if you meet the minimum criteria for jobs. Application information is also available in different formats where required, such as Braille and large print. There is also assistance in place for employees who become disabled whilst working for the council.

We are working with Stonewall, Europe’s largest, lesbian, gay, bi and trans charity to create a truly inclusive workplace where people are able to bring their whole self to work.

We are also prioritising engagement with our working carers and are in the process of setting up a carers network to support our employees to balance work and caring responsibilities.

In addition we have committed to the Greater Manchester Workforce Race Equality Standard which is a collaboration of public sector employers across the Greater Manchester working together to tackle race inequality in the workplace.
