Job Description

This is an opportunity to take a leading senior role in the Children’s Services Department Asset Management and Pupil Place Planning Team where you will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of the Department’s capital programme.  Working with colleagues within the wider Corporate Property Services Division of the Council, you will be expected to identify, commission and lead on a range of priority condition works to ensure the appropriate maintenance and upkeep of the Local Authority’s Community and Voluntary Controlled schools to ensure that they remain safe and operational for continued teaching and learning.

Working closing with colleagues in the Information and Analysis, and School Admissions Teams, you will be required to support in the preparation and delivery of a necessary pupil place planning strategy, working with all sectors of schools and partner organisations, including Voluntary Aided and Academy schools both mainstream and special, to ensure that the Council continues to fulfil its statutory duty to provide a school place for all children that require a place.

As part of the above, the role will require undertaking appropriate legislative and statutory processes such as School Organisation Regulations in respect of school changes, as well as those required in respect of changes to school land.

About You

You will have experience of project development from the perspective of the Client and Lead Officer and be able to demonstrate how you identify and prioritise projects against competing options and with limited and challenging resources.

You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of current legislation applicable to school place planning and sufficiency and show evidence of successfully delivering projects from inception to completion.

You will be expected to support the Manager in undertaking the main roles of the team, but you will also be expected to take a leading role on individual projects and to work collaboratively with others, both from within the Council as well as external stakeholders to deliver such schemes.  You will therefore need to be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, to negotiate and to be outcome and solution focussed.
