Life Lodge Alternative Education

Life Lodge aims to be a place where everyone is accepted for who they are, and the journey they have experienced. We will nurture the pathway for their future choices and build a toolkit for success. The aim is to make all learners journey’s successful by offering a unique and flexible way to learn. Life Lodge endeavours to allow each young person who comes through our door the education they deserve and can achieve.

The fundamentals behind all that we do at Life Lodge is person centred and based on trauma informed practises, using a PACE (Play, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy) approach. This allows us to THRIVE in delivering personalised interventions to address SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) needs through the use of Play Therapy, Lego Therapy, games, and social skills interventions, amongst others. In turn, this promotes the development of fine and gross motor skills, speech and language and sensory development.

Each young person will receive a bespoke timetable focussing not only on educational outcomes, but also embedded with life skills, enrichment activities and vocational pathways based on their individual needs. Group numbers will be small, in order to offer a more personalised and fully supportive environment, whilst still providing outstanding differentiation.

Main Responsibilities will include:
- To create individualised and supportive lessons for students - including Functional Skills maths and English
- To communicate responsibilities with support staff and liaising with carers of students
- To plan and prepare lessons and supporting resources
- To work with students with complex needs and supporting them through their own barriers to learning
- To help students build resilience and develop their own strategies to help them control their own behaviour
- To teach an engaging curriculum to children who experience SEMH difficulties
- To modify and personalise the curriculum for children with a range of learning difficulties and complex needs
- To engage with a range of systems which provide targets to measure pupil progress
- To plan, implement and evaluate individual academic and pastoral targets for children that clearly define their needs.
- To identify suitable interventions for individual children in order to accelerate progress and achieve targets set
- To use quality assessment information to ensure progress for every child
- To line manage and mentor support staff
- To take pastoral leadership for the Nurture group of children which includes liaison with families and outside agencies
- To support the principles of positive approaches to behaviour
- To communicate effectively with other school staff, parents, carers, social workers, and other agencies.
- To contribute to pupils’ meetings – including CLA reviews, CIN, TAF, termly parents evening and statutory annual reviews of EHC plan.
- To assist in the organisation and delivery of school based in–service training activities and to keep up to date with developments and changes in the education service and other agencies.
- To attend appropriate in-service training to enhance skills and awareness of needs.
- To work at all times within agreed policies, working practices and ethos of the school and to work as part of a multi – disciplinary team.
