Temporary until March 2023 due to secondment

Your role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join Wigan Council’s Culture Team as we work towards the re-opening of our new Archives & Local Studies facility at Leigh Town Hall.
Following the complete refurbishment of the Archives, supported by Wigan Council and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are seeking to recruit two Customer Service Officers to help shape and deliver our ambitious Activity Plan in the service’s new home.

You will work with the Culture Team to plan and deliver the Volunteering and Community Programme and Education & Engagement Programme as set out in the Activity Plan for the project, Revealing Wigan Archives (RWA).

You will work in partnership with colleagues, cultural providers and key external organisations to support the delivery of the Revealing Wigan Archives Project and Wigan Borough’s Cultural Manifesto.

You will engage with a range of partners to broker and enable services that underpin the Culture, Heritage and Arts offer across the Borough, actively involving volunteer groups and Deal for Community funded partners working within the cultural sector.
You’ll support the creation of a robust culture volunteer that enhances the opportunity to grow and deliver services in our communities, whilst also developing and promoting volunteer programmes to build opportunities for cultural and community engagement.

About you:

You will be highly motivated, customer focused and keen to make a positive difference to the team and the way our customers can access the Archives and wider Cultural offer. You will be a great communicator who is used to dealing with a range of people at all levels both internally and externally.

You will be highly organised, energetic and able to contribute creatively to the development of the new services at the Archives.

You will need to be able to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Council of the Year’ at the 2019 LGC Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a highly driven team, working closely with partners and volunteers across the cultural sector ensuring that customers have access to cultural opportunities. In the Culture, Arts & Heritage Team we make change happen through innovative thinking and are embarking on an exciting journey with our five year Cultural Manifesto, including the delivery of the new Archives & Local Studies service at Leigh Town Hall. If you have excellent communication skills and the commitment, knowledge and experience of working with customers and would like to join this dynamic team then we would like to hear from you.

As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
