Role Overview:

Working within the council’s busy Housing Options Team, you will help to deliver the Council’s statutory homelessness duties from within the Temporary Accommodation section of our service. The role will have a specific focus on supporting people who have been formerly sleeping rough and are currently living in temporary accommodation such as the A Bed Every Night (ABEN) service, with a focus on helping them to secure new settled homes, ensuring welfare benefits are in place to maximise household incomes and tenancy sustainment.

The post holder will demonstrate a holistic approach to addressing homelessness by combining their communication and listening skills to deliver accurate advice and support. In addition, a confident and resilient attitude with the ability to adopt a multi-agency approach where needed, is key to succeeding in the Housing Options Service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide advice, support and assistance to customers placed in Temporary Accommodation by managing expectations surrounding their move on option
  • Contribute to reducing the length of time households spend in temporary accommodation by finding solutions to debts and benefit cap
  • To support Housing Options to prevent and relieve homelessness by overcoming Welfare Reform and financial barriers
  • To provide housing and tenancy management services to homeless people ensuring high standards of service delivery focused to their needs and to ensure they can successfully sustain and manage their tenancies

Oldham Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
