Job Title – Environmental Health Officer (Environmental Protection – Contaminated land and Air Quality Lead)

Salary Range£38,223 - £40,221 (Band 8) plus £2,182 market supplement (pro rata) 

Working Pattern – Full Time

Working hours – 36.25 hours (flexible working available 7am-9pm) (part   time / reduced hours negotiable)

About the role

Trafford’s Environmental Protection Team have an exciting vacancy for an Environmental Health Officer to join the Department and act as Lead Officer for contaminated land and air quality. The role holder will provide expertise in the scientific and technical aspects of land contamination and remediation, local air quality management and review of air quality assessments and improvement plans.

The team enforce environmental protection legislation for industrial, commercial and domestic sectors including noise and statutory nuisance, contaminated land, air quality and clean air, private water supplies and anti-social behaviour. The team are also responsible for the inspection and permitting of a range of industrial processes to control and reduce pollution emissions to air.

The team are key statutory consultees for the Council’s planning control team, ensuring noise and nuisance, air quality and contaminated land impacts of new developments are assessed to ensure they do not negatively impact the surrounding areas. The team also act as a statutory consultee for the Council’s licensing team, to achieve the Council’s licensing policy objective of preventing public nuisance from licensed premises.

The team work as an integral part of the Council’s multi-agency team which plan, regulate and control large scale events. The team also undertaken extensive monitoring of noise and nuisance related to each individual event and produce reports for the multi-agency team.

This role offers the flexibility of hot desking / home working together with field based work.

About you

You will have:

· A degree or diploma in Environmental Health and be EHRB registered.

 · Recent experience relating to pollution control, contaminated land and air quality and good working knowledge of the legislation, guidance and practice in relation to contaminated land, including graphical databases, land contamination risk management (LCRM) and local air quality management. The ability to understand and analyse technical reports and inquiries.

· The ability to prioritise work and manage a busy workload and deliver to tight deadlines.

· A passion and pride in your work.

· Excellent written and communication skills.

Additional Information

You will have flexibility in terms of hybrid working at home and in the office.

Flexibility will be required to work outside core hours.

You will be required to drive in this role and have a serviceable car available for use.
